Purpose:
Established and funded by the Iowa Chapter of the Health Information and Management Systems Society in 2010.
Goal:
The Iowa HIMSS Chapter scholarship program is designed to encourage and promote individuals to pursue degrees and careers in the healthcare information and management systems industry.

Two scholarshipsare given annually:

Two scholarships in the amount of $1,500 will be awarded to traditional or non-traditional students.
The scholarship will be presented in May 2012, at the Iowa HIMSS event.
Criteria:
Applicants for the Chapter Scholarship must fulfill these minimum requirements:
Traditional

The applicant must be a student member of the Iowa HIMSS Chapter

Preference will be given to applicants attending a school in the Chapter area or school in Iowa

The primary occupation of the applicant at the time the scholarship is awarded must be that of a student in an accredited associates, undergraduate, masters, or PhD program related to the healthcare information management systems field. The specific degree program is not a critical factor, although it is expected that programs similar to those in industrial engineering, operations research, healthcare informatics, computer science and information systems, mathematics, and quantitative programs in business administration and hospital administration will predominate

Previous Iowa Chapter scholarship winners are ineligible
Non-traditional

Students, age 25 and over, who are working toward an associates, undergraduate degree, or certificate from an accredited college, university, trade or technical school can apply for the award

It is expected that programs similar to those in industrial engineering, operations research, healthcare informatics, computer science and information systems, mathematics, and quantitative programs in business administration and hospital administration will predominate

The Scholarship Process:

The Chapter will provide application form
-
Reviewers from the Chapter Board of Directors will review all applications and choose a recipient

The call for applications will be announced to the Chapter membership and posted to the Chapter website

Applications must be submitted by the deadline of April 30, 2012

Winners will be notified by phone and email, and be officially presented with the award at an Iowa Chapter event
In addition to the cash prize and recognition, recipients will receive the following:

Complimentary registration to a chapter event

Recognition in the Chapter newsletter and/or announcement to all members

Opportunity to volunteer with the Chapter board of directors
