Welcome
Cristina Thomas, Iowa HIMSS Chapter President, 2007-08
Welcome to another exciting year of Iowa HIMSS activities! It’s hard to believe summer is almost over but before you let that get you down – cheer up – there’s a lot to look forward to as we move into the Fall and beyond. The Board is made up a variety of individuals representing a broad spectrum of organizations and specialization areas. The Board is actively developing new ideas to continue to make your membership to HIMSS more meaningful and hopefully in some ways fun! You’ll note we have a new Point Awards system that the more you participate in HIMSS activities; the more you are “rewarded” for it! We’re hoping this will turn into a fun way to compete against your fellow HIMSS members to see who can receive the most number of awards during the year!
We’re developing an informative set of meeting agendas for the year and will kick off the year with our October meeting focused on Iowa’s organizations that were recognized by their “Most Wired” awards. Since we’re just coming off of another successful Iowa State Fair we thought our next meeting should focus on the “Best of Class” technology accomplishments of Iowa healthcare organizations. Listed below is a tentative schedule of events for the year so mark your calendars. We’ve also added a couple teleconference sessions throughout the year so that all the Iowa HIMSS meetings don’t require travel as we know that it’s hard to get away from your day jobs – hopefully this makes it easier to attend. Don’t forget, you get points for all activities that you participate in!
Proposed Schedule of programs (most all day programs will be held in Des Moines):
- October 4th: All day program featuring Iowa’s Most Wired Organizations
- November 5-6: Wisconsin / Midwest event
- January: All-day program #2
- March: Audio Conference (after National HIMSS)
- April: Two-day program #3
- May: Joint Chapter Audio Conference
Please visit our web site as well at the following link - www.iowahimss.org. We hope you find meaningful information about both local and national activities involving healthcare information management professionals.
Please let us know any questions you may have and don’t forget to refer a colleague to become a member of HIMSS or at least come to a meeting! There’s points related to that as well!!
2007 Midwest Area HIMSS Chapters Conference
James Bahensky, Past President
Mark your calendars for November 5 and 6, 2007 and plan to join us for a joint conference with our neighboring chapters in the beautiful surroundings of the Osthoff Resort in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Iowa HIMSS has joined forces with four other chapters to bring you a conference on Technology for Tomorrow and Beyond: A HIT Odyssey. Both days will provide you the opportunity to learn from your peers through peer-selected multiple presentations and workshops. Also, available will be vendor exhibitions. This will be good time to escape before all the holidays begin and network with others to find out if they are struggling with similar issues you maybe facing or have found solutions for which you may have an interest in further exploring. David Zach, a well known futurist, will provide a keynote address at a dinner on Monday evening followed by a reception with entertainment by the ComedySportz. The conference will conclude on Tuesday with a keynote speech from Judy Murphy, RN, FACMI, FHIMSS, vice president of information services, Aurora Health Care. But don’t leave just yet – prizes will then be drawn. Cost is $175 per member or $275 for non-members. Membership cost can be achieved by joining national HIMSS or the Iowa HIMSS chapter. Registration and other conference information can be found at www.2007falltechnologyconference.com. See you in Osthoff, and remember what happens in Osthoff should not just stay in Osthoff but is meant to be shared.
